Greenstar
Green Star NZ is an
environmental rating system for buildings.
Buildings have a
significant impact on the environment. They consume 32% of the
worlds resources, including 12% of its water and up to 40% of
its energy. Buildings also produce 40% of landfill waste and
40% of air emissions.
The Green Star NZ rating
system is introduced by the New Zealand Green Building
Council(NZGBC).
Green Star NZ assesses a
building projects green building considerations like energy
and water efficiency, indoor environment quality, use of
materials and resource conservation.
Green Star NZ was created

Green Star NZ recognizes
and rewards market leaders, so the NZGBC only formally
certifies designs, projects or buildings that achieve a rating
of Four, Five or Six stars.

Who does the Greens
Star rating
The Green Star ratings
are determined by the assessors working at the New Zealand
Green Building Council.
The Green Star NZ
Accredited Professional (GSNZAP) prepares the application for
certification and collects the documentation. She/he is the
main point of contact with the New Zealand Green Building
Council and is responsible for the quality of the submission.
The GSNZAP will be a
member of the design team and encourages environmental
sustainable design principles from the earliest projects
stages through to construction.
Green Star NZ Accredited
Professionals are experienced building industry practitioners
who have demonstrated their understanding of the Green Star NZ
rating system and the benefits of integrated design. In order
to become a Green Star NZ Accredited Professional, candidates
attend two NZGBC Green Star NZ Accredited Professional courses
(Level 1 and Level 2) and pass the associated
exam.
Cost
The costs for Green Star
NZ certification consist of a fee payable to the NZGBC and the
hourly rate for the Green Star NZ Accredited
Professional.
